Brief overview…

Founded in 1981, AMEIPH is a non-profit organization legally constituted and established in Quebec, and is registered with the Registraire des entreprises du Québec. The AMEIPH benefits from the Community Organizations Support Program (PSOC) of the CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de Montréal. AMEIPH has also been recognized as a charitable organization since 1981.

The AMEIPH’s mission is to develop the potential and to empower people with disabilities (PWDs) from immigrant backgrounds, with a view to their integration and inclusion in the host society.

The Association offers services with a series of interventions articulated around four components: 1) Orientation, including accompaniment, referral according to the specific needs of the persons; (2) empowerement, in view to facilitate their social integration and citizen participation; (3) Belonging, with a view to development and socialization; (4) capacitydevelopment to stimulate personal, social, motor, linguistic, and artistic skills.

AMEIPH has solid expertise in the field of disability and immigration and has an in-depth knowledge of the recurrent challenges affecting immigrants with disabilities, whom it has accompanied throughout the various waves of immigration to Quebec. Members benefit from continuous psychosocial support and are accompanied in their integration process. Their social participation is encouraged within the framework of programmes and projects. AMEIPH has developed training tools and led training workshops in adapted francization and intercultural approach.

AMEIPH offers a meeting place for its members who participate in intergenerational and inclusive activities, including thematic exchanges on essential issues such as housing, access to health services, legal services, paratransit, or employment. Members take these opportunities to share their experiences, express their challenges and needs, and highlight their skills.

AMEIPH is a member of groups and round tables, namely the Confédération des organismes de personnes handicapées du Québec (COPHAN), the Table de concertation des organismes au service des personnes réfugiés et immigrantes (TCRI), the Collectif d’organisme pour la défense des droits des personnes en situation de handicap (CODDPSH), the Alliance of Multicultural Communities for Equality in Health and Social Services (ACCÉSSS), and the Regroupement des tables de concertation de La Petite-Patrie (RTCPP).
