💃 Adapted Art Project: a look back at the public performance of creative dance

A moment rich in emotion

On February 1, 2024, Place des Arts hosted the final performance of the creative dance workshops offered as part of Projet Art Adapté. This emotionally-charged performance brought to a brilliant close the sessions led by artist mediator Menka Nagrani, accompanied by Ana Maria Barletta, head of the Je découvre program. Held weekly throughout January, these workshops brought together participants in the Je découvre program and members of the Parrainage Civique association.

The final performance was a moment of timeless suspense and emotion, both for those on stage and for the spectators, who were able to admire their work and cheer them on. The participants were able to express their creativity through movement, accompanied on the harmonica by custom-made melodies. By highlighting the talent and passion of the dancers, this event played a crucial role in raising the profile of disabled people from immigrant backgrounds, brilliantly illustrating that art knows no bounds and that the stage belongs to everyone, without distinction.

The Art adapté program offers cultural mediation workshops designed to introduce participants to the performing arts. These workshops are tailor-made for people living with functional limitations. They promote their social and cultural inclusion through increased contact with the living arts, enabling them to reveal their full creative potential.

An artist-mediator committed to an inclusive approach

The creative dance workshops were led by artist mediator Menka Nagrani. This multidisciplinary artist explores different artistic universes through dance, theater and music. In 2004, she founded Les Productions des pieds des mains, a dance-theatre company committed to an inclusive approach. She has created several shows that she has presented on the professional Quebec scene, as well as in Canada, France, the UK, Belgium and Japan. A Quebec pioneer in the inclusion of artists with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders or other specific needs, the company is recognized internationally for its inclusive pedagogy and creative approach.
